Now the rest of the story.

A one-star package, a terrace by the sea and a teenage daughter with strong opinions. Here it is again, and below it, what actually happened.

1 star. Verified booking, summer 2026.

Review: metjeoudersopvakantie.nl

The website promised my sister (11) and me (14) a relaxing holiday full of good times, ice cream, cola, fun outings and chill time. Sadly this turned out to be mostly clever marketing.

Pros

  • There are good looking boys in Italy.

Cons

  • The wifi works roughly half of the time.
  • Ice cream is served far less often than advertised.
  • Cola and Fanta apparently count as ice cream. Seriously?
  • There is daily nagging. "Put on more sunscreen." "Get off your phone." "Look at the view."
  • The parking process takes far too long. No spot is ever good enough. Unnecessary.
  • We get dragged along on hikes and village visits, which eats into the promised chill time.
  • Once I have done my hair, I am still expected to swim. Ridiculous.
  • There is one bathroom, too small to complete my full make-up routine.
  • The holiday parents can become stressed or angry out of nowhere about things that are not a problem.
  • They get changed in the same room where we sleep. Awkward.
  • Sleeping in is not included in the package.
In short: the expectations set beforehand do not match reality. There is potential in the Premium Package, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Less nagging, more ice cream, faster parking and across the board more understanding for teenagers would be a start. Disappointing.

Final verdict: 1 star. Not recommended. Only book this if you enjoy hiking, being parented and having your screen time restricted.

Italy. Not that particular holiday, but the same idea.

We did not come up with this. We just spotted it in time.

This review was already going around when we came across it. Someone else wrote it, and that is exactly why it works: it is real. We did one thing. We checked whether metjeoudersopvakantie.nl, Dutch for "on holiday with your parents", was still available. It was. An hour later this page existed, with measurement underneath it.

Which is exactly where it goes wrong for a brand. Something happens, someone writes something, and you are the last to hear about it.

  1. Noticing that something is happeningSomewhere your brand is being talked about. In a community, in the trade press, in a post going around just like this one. Most business owners only find out when a customer forwards it, and by then the peak has passed. We keep an eye on it daily, so you know while it is still running.
  2. Knowing whether it mattersNot every mention is news. We put what happens outside next to what happens inside, your campaigns, your numbers. Noise stays quiet. If your traffic drops because of something you had not seen yet, you hear about it the same day.
  3. Getting something out of itAttention without a next step evaporates within a day. Which is why there is a button below, and why tomorrow we will know exactly how many people pressed it and what that was worth.

Do not call it a stunt. A stunt can be planned, this could not. What you can plan is being ready: seeing what happens and going live within the hour with something that also measures what it returns. For this page we did that by hand. For our clients it keeps running, including on the days when nothing funny comes past.

The review is not ours and we do not know who wrote it. Is that you, or do you know her? Let us know and we will add a credit or take it down.

We built this page in an hour. The rest of the week we track what is being said about business owners out there, and what that does to their numbers in here, using their own data, kept in their own hands. A first conversation costs you nothing.
